December 1 - 9, 2013
Cuba represents the educational travel opportunity of a lifetime! It's a destination--just 90 miles off the coast of the United States, yet a world away--many American travelers are eager to learn about. For decades, Americans have been unable to visit Cuba. Today, that is slowly changing. AmeriClub can now travel to Cuba with Collette Vacations as part of a limited People-to-People initiative.
Highlights include meeting a Cuban family in their very own privately-operated restaurant with its organic farm; visit to Havana, Cuba's energetic capital, with a trip around the city in an antique American car for which the city is known; Trinidad, with its cobblestone streets and pastel-colored houses, in which we dine at a local restaurant and enjoy live traditional music and a fascinating lecture on the instruments used to produce the distinctive "Sounds of Cuba;" author Ernest Hemingway's home, where he conceived his final masterpiece, "The Old Man and the Sea"; cigar factory visit; Bay of Pigs Museum, showcasing one of the major events of the Cold War; discussion led by a Cuban scholar on U.S.-Cuban policies; ceramic studio visit and pottery demonstration; Cienfuegos and its botanical gardens; harbor cruise; Cuban Fine Arts Museum and presentation by a local art historian; local health care facility visit for insight into Cuba's health care system; Casa Fuster, the colorful home of artist Jose Fuster, who drew inspiration from Gaudi; former sugar factory and estate visit to learn about sugar production and Cuban agriculture; Literacy Museum to learn about Cuba's educational system; linen-making presentation by Cuban residents; plaza visit including traditional music and dancing; visit to a local produce market and a cathedral; and more. Day-by-day itinerary, trip inclusions, and pricing will be announced soon.
