A Kentucky Celebration

October 15-20, 2014

This six-day journey to the Bluegrass State is highlighted by the 100th Birthday Celebration for the Belle of Louisville Riverboat. Ride the Ohio River on four different riverboats from around the country, dine on the Old Kentucky Dinner Train, and experience Kentucky's equine culture at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington and Churchill Downs in Louisville.

We begin by boarding a deluxe motorcoach to travel to New Harmony, Indiana, where we will experience the serenity of our surroundings at the New Harmony Inn. Our accommodations and two meals are included.

The next three nights will be in Louisville, KY at the beautiful Galt House Hotel. Enjoy becoming acquainted with this modern city and its historical traditions. We will visit the famous Churchill Downs race track and enjoy Breakfast on the Backstretch, watch the thoroughbreds work out on the track, and later have admission to the Kentucky Derby Museum. There is free time to explore on our own, with optional visits to the Frazier History Museum, the Louisville Slugger Museum, or the Glassworks.

We will also have a day outside of Louisville when we visit Lexington's Kentucky Horse Park, which depicts the region's equine heritage. That day will also include a stop in Bardstown and a tour of the Heaven Hill Distillery, featuring another famous product of Kentucky – Bourbon.

The focus of this trip will be on Louisville, however, and the Belle's Big Birthday Bash. The Belle of Louisville, America's oldest remaining steamboat, has invited seven of her riverboat friends to celebrate her 100th birthday for six days in October. Louisville's "Festival of Riverboats" on the Ohio River celebrates America's unique riverboat heritage, and AmeriClub members will be there! We will ride on four unique riverboats during this festival. Our first night in Louisville we board the General Jackson, which is well known to travelers who have visited Nashville, for a dinner cruise, delicious meal, and musical show.

On Day Three we enjoy breakfast on the Spirit of Peoria, one of the true paddle wheelers based out of Peoria, IL. On Day Four, we will experience a Parade Cruise aboard the Belle of Cincinnati, enjoying musical entertainment and appetizers as all eight boats in the event cruise along Louisville's waterfront.

That evening is the Birthday Dinner Cruise on the Belle of Louisville. The 100th Birthday Celebration includes a delicious meal, musical entertainment, a slice of cake, and an amazing fireworks show. What a great way to conclude our stay in Louisville!

As we depart, this journey is not yet complete. We will travel to Indianapolis for our final overnight accommodations. While here, we will join a guided motorized city tour with lunch in an historic home, followed by a tour of the famed Indianapolis 500 Speedway, and then dinner and a show at the Beef & Boards Dinner Theatre.

On our way home, we will stop at the Lavender Crest Winery near Colona, IL to complete this fabulous adventure.

This tour includes five nights' lodging, all attractions and activities per itinerary, 12 Meals, deluxe motorcoach transportation, luggage handling for one piece per person, full-time tour director and AmeriClub escort, all gratuities, and travel insurance.
