September 15-20, 2014
Gain a deep appreciation of this exciting, historic part of our country as we venture into the frontierland of South Dakota and the Black Hills! Walk in the footsteps of Wild Bill Hickok, Buffalo Bill, Calamity Jane, and the thousands who sought their fortune during the 1870s Gold Rush.
Join AmeriClub as we visit Deadwood, the #10 Saloon where Wild Bill Hickok was killed during a card game, Mt. Moriah Cemetery, Days of 76 Museum, Devil's Tower National Monument, Spearfish Canyon, Sturgis and the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum.
Experience the massive, work-in-progress Crazy Horse Monument. Be inspired by the spectacular evening lighting ceremony at Mt. Rushmore National Memorial. Ride the narrow-gauge 1880 Train, and learn the importance of the railroad to the development of the Black Hills. Visit the Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary, the grassland home to over six hundred "too old, too ugly, or too independent" unadoptable wild mustangs running free across endless prairies.
Embark upon a thrilling Custer State Park open-air jeep ride in search of some of the 1,500 free-roaming buffalo that make the park their home, and dine at its historic State Game Lodge. Visit the Tatanka: Story of the Bison Interpretive Center, funded by actor Kevin Costner, which tells the story of the bison and what they meant to the Plains Indians. Stop at the Chapel in the Woods, built like the famous stave churches in Norway; and visit the $12,000,000 Journey Museum. Learn interesting stories about our American presidents; and see their outdoor statues on an interesting guided walking tour of Rapid City, "The City of Presidents." Enjoy a cowboy cookout with entertainment. Experience Badlands National Park; and stop at 1936-era, world-famous Wall Drug and the State Game Park. Tour the Black Hills Gold Factory to learn how this iconic jewelry is made.
