Follow these basic tips to keep your credit safe from fraud:
- Check your account statement promptly (or utilize Internet Banking) and immediately report any suspicious transactions.
- Destroy all receipts before discarding since some may have your card number printed on them.
- Guard your card! Don’t use it as collateral or give your card number to someone on the phone unless you initiated the call for a purchase.
- Check your credit report annually to ensure its accuracy.
- Register your card to use “Verified by Visa” and shop online
with merchants that participate in this service. It provides additional
protection against unauthorized use of your card online.
If you experience fraud on your account call us immediately. Fortunately,
Visa offers our cardholders multiple layers of security protection against
fraud, including Visa’s zero liability policy, the ultimate protection
for cardholders. With zero liability, consumers are not responsible for
any unauthorized purchases made on their Visa cards.
Other tips to reduce your chances for card fraud include:
- Diligently shred all personal and financial information.
- Keep all personal documentation and records in a secure place.
- Contact the post office immediately if you do not receive your mail.
- Be aware of your surroundings when entering your PIN at an ATM.
- Limit the number of cards and personal information you carry with you.
- Report lost or stolen cards as soon as possible.
- Consider closing credit card accounts you do not use.
- Monitor your card’s expiration date and the arrival of a new card.
- Sign all new credit cards upon receipt.
- Avoid using obvious passwords regarding your credit card accounts.
